Random Medical Knowledge from Watching Bedtime Dramas.
Hello there, it's me again, Fake Dr. Aan.
I'm writing this based from whatever I remember from all the medical drama that I watch, Korean drama, Taiwanese or even the thick mandarin speaking mainland China drama. I don't like medical genre drama much, because of less thinking needed rather than watching thriller action crime drama. So here are some of my general medical knowledge now.
Increased ICP (intercranial pressure) – caused by head injury, tumor, hematoma (means bleeding inside brain – got two type, subdural / epidural), aneurysm (thin blood vessel wall that can rupture).. and other reasons that is not popular enough to put inside the drama. Doctor will give mannitol. Usually inside the drama, people with this issue usually will go coma.
Glasgow Coma Scale Score – is a scoring sheet (3-15) for coma patient, if a patient got overall score of 3 - the patient is in a deep shit and will go die. But in unrealistic drama usually miracle will happen, lol.
Chemo Port – hmm. This is somewhat like usb port on top of your chest but for inserting needle? It's like a fake vein to your heart vessel to infuse chemo fluid.
Bradycardia - slow heart rate
Tachycardia - heart beat too fast hahahah, this one was my problem during 2018, I got fucked up by chemical imbalance + caffeine overdose + work-related stress. First time in my life buying decaf just to liaise with this problem.
Pneumothorax - collapsed lung. Always in the drama after people get accident and break their ribs, or get shot on the chest by the bad guy. This is where the hero/heroine will do the dramatically overrated procedure of making hole in the chest with pen ink tube or even worse, a vitagen straw to substitute needle aspiration to let go of the excess air or fluid between the chest wall and the lung.
Hemothorax - same like on top, but with blood.
Cardiac Tamponade - almost same. When the sac that take care of your heart cavity pressure got disrupted, your heart will be pressured by its surrounding fluid. Then your heart cannot pump as much blood as your body needed. Jugular vein will be swollen.
Gunshot wound - can cause 3 possibilities, just a penetration (the bullet stucks inside your body/organ). Cavitation - the bullet leave a temporary or permanent hole inside your body. And the scariest is embolism, which is for the small calibre bullet to flow inside your artery.
(What ever bound to happen will happen, nothing is certain in this life - Dr. Hsiao Zheng Xun)
Subcutaneous Emphysema - trapped air inside your chest, back tissue after respiratory injury from wounds and trauma. When you poke it it feels crispy. Idk.
