Sketch KL Meetup for the 1st Time — Didn't Disappoint!
For the first time in my life – I joined a Sketch KL community event.
I've been using Sketch app for 3 years now but I never had the chance to attend any of the community event held by them. Last time, I was the only designer of my company and I simply don't have time to discover this community meet-up thingy.
Now, my Snappymob UI/UX team consists of 4 core designers including me! I have more time to learn since the workloads can be divided easily among the team. Yeayyyers! So, thank you guys.
As an ambivert, this is the time to try to going places and learn new knowledge from the Sketch fam.
The event was held a Bangsar South, the place where i used to commute to everyday for my part-time job at JOCOM. There, we got two speakers from different company. The first one feels like a professional university lecturer and the second one talks like a legit comedian but both are very good in their perspective job.
In didn't take notes physically but i remember the contents mentally (can ah?). At first I assumed 'Design at Scale' means the scaling for different devices which require you to export @1x, @2x, @3x but it is actually something deeper than that. It was actually like; there are extrovert and extroverted UI/UX designer and every type of designer will have their own strengths and specialties yada yada.
The same day we're attending this event, the Sketch's 60th update was released.
One of my important highlight of the event is the foods they provided. Though the foods looked like ordinary packed meal, it was soo good and wholesome. Thanks to my team members who skipped some parts of the meal and give it to me.
The first speaker introduced us to this site: https://www.designnotes.co/
To be honest too, while writing this, this is also my first time opening this.
After that we talk-talk.
We take photo together as a team.
And we ciao.
The merchandises that I got from the event are the black pencil and the Sketch sticker. Yeah, I'm a sticker maniac.
Actually I've been always wanting to join this kinda event, ever since I graduated from MMU (2015) majoring in Interface Design. But sadly, UI/UX wasn't a big thing back then. And last time, don't even have a plan on what I want to be career-wise. 2 months after I graduate, I quit my part-time UI/UX designer at JOCOM, Bangsar South and I only know like 'Ooff, I just fucking graduated and I NEED to work at a MULTI-NATIONAL COMPANY to feed my ego as a fresh graduate'. Alas, I worked for Behn Meyer (Malaysia) for one year and the only UI/UX related projects that I worked for is their website and their intranet.
Now, I'm working for Snappymob, a full core UI/UX and development agency, I feel like woahhh. There's plenty of things to learn. And this event was definitely a good opportunity for me.
